poem of the day

I heard something yesterday on Writer's Almanac about Theodore Roethke which made me remember this poem. I have always loved it for it's sweet, simple rhythm and it's lovely, equally simple images. It's very nice.

To A Young Wife

by Theodore Roethke

My lizard, my lively writher
May your limbs never wither
May the eyes in your face
Survive the green ice
Of envy's mean gaze;
May you live out your life
Without hate, without grief,
May your hair ever blaze
In the sun, in the sun
When I am undone
When I am no-one.
