you want her, you can have her

Actual conversation between me and my mother just now:

Mom: (Watching commercial for the new Bionic Woman) "She's a British actress, but you can't tell. Isn't it weird to see someone who you know is totally British and then you hear them talk and they totally block out their British accent?"

Me: "They don't 'block out' their accent, they do an American accent."

Mom: "What? Americans don't have an accent. We talk plain."

Me: "Are you serious?"

Mom: (Looking at me like I'm crazy.) "Are YOU serious? Americans. Don't. Have accents."

That's actually my problem with Journey Man. The lead guy's American accent is a little shaky and he REALLY doesn't sound like the New Yorker who's supposed to be his brother.

i am kind of speechless.....

it's like a study of 'how small can your world get?.'....

you must be going bonkers!!

oh and as for american accents i was sad to see a 'normal at home' video of Portia de Rossi on TMZ.com with a TOTAL american accent - no sign of her Aussie beginnings. what a loss..
oh well
she still looked cute...

you know i also have a kind of sympathy for Americans these days.
with my own experiences of relocation, being taken out of a comfort zone and arriving in a new one that others look so comfortable in and I feel just a mess about, i have a new respect for the basic desire to stay put, keep singular and know only what is 'real' to your own reality.
it's hard work this other thing. exploring diversity.
hard work.
i can see why few americans do it.
i can hardly stand doing it myself right now.....

that girl is kinda hot. i saw her in a bbc series over the summer, jekyl. where she did have her native "non" accent. then when i saw her in the bionic woman i'm like...wait...is that...OH! :-p

speaking of bad accents, about a month ago when i couldn't sleep i watched 'species' at 4am. worst ben kingsley accent (and movie) i ever saw.
