i think she's pulling a heche, only much worse

Is there a formal excommunication process within the queer community? Or maybe this is so bad, we should just get out the pitchforks and torches? This so-called lesbian (now rethinking her sexuality) is trying to have her adoption invalidated by arguing that LESBIANS DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO ADOPT. Oh my god, you selfish motherfucker. Your relationship went sour and now you want out from under your responsibility to your child and you're willing to TOTALLY SCREW the queer community to get it. WTF??? You are a fucking loser on ten different levels. With any luck the judge who ends up with case will have some sense and will say, "Sorry, you homos fought for the right to adopt, we gave it to you, now you have to suck it up and take care of your kids. You're EQUAL now, remember?" That would be nice.

I'm being one-sided here. Maybe SK will post a comment with something more balanced.

wait -- maybe i missed an important part of the article -- but i thought the woman in this case WANTED to lose custody of the kid. why give her what she wants? best of both worlds would have the judge saying, "you fought for the right to adopt this kid as a lesbian and you got it. you can't get out of it by selling out the queer community and making the opposite argument that you shouldn't have been allowed to adopt in the first place. so, you're stuck as the child's legal parent. BUT, since you're such a selfish jerk, you don't get to see the kid. you just have to pay child support." that would be best. maybe. either way, though, it's fucked up. imagine how the kid will feel someday?

I'm with zuhn! It looks like the woman in question is the biological parent of the child and wants her former lesbian partner, who adopted the child, to no longer have any custody rights. Which TOTALLY makes her a selfish jerk. Craziness.

illness can do that. when i'm ill i can't even make coherent sentences (as though it's not a struggle when i'm well!) so don't feel bad.

i hope you get better, poet.

This case proves two things: one, that the gay community still doesn't have the credibility and stature it deserves, since belonging to it can be thrown around on a whim; and two, that our legal system sucks...

poet, I just started a new network on ning.com for lesbian bloggers ... let me know if you'd be interested in joining.
